A project for my contemporary art history class. We had to reproduce a piece from the Abstract Expressionist time period.

I chose Willem de Kooning’s Woman I from his woman series. It really stuck out to me and it took me a bit to even realize she had hooves and an odd lower body.

We had alot of freedom because we didn’t have to do a complete replica, and could even choose to just be inspired by a piece. I chose to try and make her more realistic in terms of proportions, but not to lose the essence or energy the original painting had so i left my lines and coloring very loose and ‘messy’.

I think it helped me learn a little bit about different colors working together. I’m a bit proud of it.
